About the Area
First settled by the Europeans in the 1820s Mudgee is the largest township in the Region as well as being the second oldest Australian township west of the Great Dividing Range.
The first settlers, George and Henry Cox, arrived in February 1822, quickly followed by a number of other families. On 12 January 1838, the new township was gazetted as “The Village of Mudgee”, being an area of one mile square. The Municipality of Mudgee came into existence on 21 February 1860.
The Mudgee Valley not only boasts great wines but also offers some of our states magnificent national parks, wildlife and nature reserves,spectacular scenery and much more.
Wollemi National Park for example is a protected wildlife wilderness area and forms part of the greater Blue Mountain area.

Dinner is included at our motel this night as is brekkie next morning, then onto a wee visit to the $5 dollar town of Gulgong, down through the cement town of Kandos to lunch in the spectacular Capertree Valley which is the second biggest canyon in the world.
